Anna (Liepuonis) Bernotas was born in Lithuania, then part of the Russian Empire, and immigrated to the United States as a young woman around 1912. She settled in Connecticut, where by the end of 1912 she had met and married a Lithuanian man named Petras. Together, the two established themselves on Spring Street in the Union City section of Naugatuck and started a family.

A resident of Naugatuck for nearly fifty years, Anna was a parishioner at Saint Mary's Church in the Union City section of town, where she was also a member of the Altar Society.

Widowed at age 47, Anna Bernotas survived her husband by more than two decades and passed away at age 71 at Waterbury Hospital. At the time of her death, she was still living on Spring Street, residing at the home of her daughter Binnie and son-in-law Mike. She was survived by an elder sister of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, Agnes Kaunas, who died in 1961.
