Funeral services were held on Wednesday, 1 Jun 1988 at 10:30 a.m. at Grandfield Lutheran Church, rural Sheyenne, ND, for Helmer Olson of Sheyenne. Rev. Charles Ellefson officiated. Organist was Mary Ellen Rue with music given by Oscar Hungness. Pallbearers were Curtis Olson, Vern Olson, Randy Olson, Timothy Olson, Bradley Nilson, David Nilson, Terry Nilson and Donald Nilson. Interment was in the Grandfield Cemetery. Helmer Olson, 91, died on Sunday, 29 May 1988 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.
He was born on 20 Oct 1895 in Grandfield township in Eddy County, ND the son of Iver and Martha Olson. He was raised and attended school in the Sheyenne area. He was united in marriage to Sigrid Rue on 5 Apr 1924 at Sheyenne. She was the daughter of Ole and Aase Lee Rue. They farmed in the Sheyenne area. Mrs. Olson died on 23 Oct 1983. He has lived at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd since November of 1983. He was a lifetime member of the Grandfield Luther Church.
Survivors include one son, Leland Olson of Sheyenne; two daughters, Elaine Nilson of Oberon and Geraldine Mrs. James Nilson of Sheyenne; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Glenn Olson and Vernon Olson; one son-in-law; three grandsons, Darwin, Barry and Brian; five sisters, Clara, Olive, Mattie, Mary and Julie; and three brothers, Christian, Ole and Ingvald. Evans Funeral Home of New Rockford was in charge of arrangements.

They include Geraldine Adeline Olson who married James Nilson, Glenn Olson who never married, Elaine who married Bartley Nilson, Vernon LeRoy Olson married Shirley Westerlund, and Leland Olson who married Beverly Hendricks.
