MERCHANT - Donald Leslie Merchant, Sr., 70, Hershey Road, Pearl City, died at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1992, in Freeport Memorial Hospital. Born July 15, 1921 in St. Francis Hospital, Freeport, the son of Frank Leslie and Ruth Brenaman Merchant. Lifelong resident of Winnebago-Pearl City areas. Married Juanita Higgins in Rockford. Employed as manager at Amerock Corp. 12 years, and was sales representative at Excelsior for 18 years; retired in July 1988. Veteran of World War II serving with Army Aircorps. Attended of Zion United Methodist Church, Pearl City. Graduated from Lanark High School.
Survivors include four daughters, Sheri (Richard) Hansen, Clarkston, Mich., Diana (Jim) Kearns, Meaford Ontario, Canada, Susan (Greg) DeJaynes, Bowling Green, Ky., Mary (Richard) Schreder, Colleyville, Texas; three sons, Donald L. (Kathy) Merchant, Jr., and Jon (Candice) Merchant, Rockford, and Jim (Karleen) Merchants, Seward; 10 granddaughters; eight grandsons; two sisters, Marjory Peters and Sandra Kuhlmeier, Rockford; and one brother, Stanley Merchant, Fayetteville, Ohio. Predeceased by parents and one son, Jeffrey Merchant in 1958.
