Obituary from the Volzke Funeral Home:
Jean Fehlhafer, of Seward passed away April 25, 2014 at her residence at the age of 89 years. Jean Wolvin Baack Fehlhafer was born on May 24, 1924 to Raymond and Ethel (Morris) Wolvin at Seward, Nebraska. Very few people actually knew her first name was Ina. Jean attended a one room country school at Utica. She was a 1940 graduate of Utica High School. She then graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce with a business degree. After college, her first job was at the ASCS Office in Seward. During the war, she moved to Santa Monica, CA, and worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant. She also worked in the offices of the Utica Elevator and Seward Memorial Hospital. Jean was united in marriage to Victor Baack on December 1, 1946 on the Wolvin family farm on Highway 34; to this union, three sons, Kenneth, Stanley and Donald and one daughter, Nancy were born. Vic and Jean farmed northwest of Staplehurst most of their married life. Victor passed away on April 26, 1978 from leukemia.
On February 27, 1981, Jean married Herman Fehlhafer at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, rural Staplehurst. Through this marriage, Jean was blessed to have seven more children to call her "mom." Herman passed away on July 22, 2005. She was an avid quilter and loved playing bridge with several different bridge groups until poor eyesight became a hindrance and she had to give up those activities. She loved her family and looked forward to the many birthday parties, gatherings and visits from all of her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never had a negative thing to say about anyone. She was a loving and kind person who was very generous with her time and thankful for her good health and sharp mind.
Jean is survived by her children, Kenneth (Marlene) Baack of Utica; Stanley (Nancy) Baack of Audubon, IA; Nancy (Rick) Cradick of Utica; Stanley (Virginia) Fehlhafer of Lincoln; Ralph Fehlhafer of Cody, WY; Kathryn (Duane) Janssen of Syracuse; Cynthia Beck of Topeka, KS; and Mary Fehlhafer of Seward; daughters-in-law, Susan Baack of Seward; Doris Fehlhafer of Seward and Betty Fehlhafer of Utica; 11 grandchildren; 21 step-grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Leora Baack; Ruth Baack; and Wilma Luth; and a brother-in-law, John (Florence) Fehlhafer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Victor Baack and Herman Fehlhafer; sons, Donald Baack; Robert Fehlhafer and Wayne Fehlhafer; son-in-law, Mark Beck; great-granddaughter, Rowan Roberson and brothers, Roland (Winnie) Wolvin; Leo (Lorena) Wolvin and Lawrence (Roberta) Wolvin.
