William McRorie
Charlotte - William Dowd (Duke) McRorie, Sr., 72, of McRorie Road, died Wednesday at his home after an extended illness. He was the father of William D. McRorie, Jr. of Lexington.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 A.M. at Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte, with Dr. W. Jack Hudson, the Rev. Tommy Penninger, and the Rev. Ed Smith officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. McRorie was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Union County to Louis Andrew and Cora Vanderburg McRorie. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and retired owner and operator of Duke's Radio and TV Service. In his earlier years he was a bus and trolley driver for Duke Power Company. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marines.
Surviving, in addition to the son, are his wife, Faye Hudson McRorie of the home; another son Bob Earl McRorie of Charlotte, two daughters, Becky Jean McRorie and Alice Jean Pressgrove both of Charlotte; six grandchildren; two half brothers, Louis McRorie of Indian Trail, and J. W. McRorie of Mint Hill; three sisters, Mrs. Lee Murphy and Evelyn Haake, both of Charlotte, and Cozy Haynes of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a half sister, Martha Couick of Indian Trail.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Home in Charlotte.
