HER GRATEFUL CHILDREN HONOR THE LIFE OF BETTY (BEE) BORZAGE JOY SHE GAVE JOY SHE HAS FOUND In Enloe Medical Center on November 5, 2013, with loving family at her side, our cherished mother went to sleep and awoke in Heaven to once again take the hand of her beloved husband, our wonderful father Kenneth. She was peaceful in her last moments as if an angel's breath gently touched her candle's flame. Through our sadness we remain grateful to God for this remarkable woman of pure love, who is now in a place of perfect peace and joy reunited with so many she loved. A long and final battle with Alzheimer's disease was bravely borne and she silently endured pain and suffering with dignity, tenacity, and a relatively light heart under excruciatingly difficult circumstances. She never complained but constantly apologized for not remembering or understanding or being burdensome. Succumbing to this horrific disease is probably the only thing in her life that she did not do on her own terms. Our mother fought courageously to remain with us until she could fight no longer. Our shining beacon of light, strength, hope and comfort was dimmed with her passing. Her state of grace as she left us mirrored the beauty of her soul. She tried to leave a beautiful lesson for us that life does not end but crosses over to fullness and illumination. That she chose to leave us just prior to Thanksgiving and Christmas was our mother's elegance, immediately helping us move grief to the spirit of gratitude. Time will never fill the emptiness since you left us and it hurts our hearts to face this first Christmas without you. We can't see you and we can't touch you and we long for the warmth of your presence. You were truly a gift to us all. To describe our mother in a few paragraphs and capture her true essence is impossible. She was a very special person of pure goodness and deep faith; a devout Catholic giving more than receiving. She would be the last to sing her own praises. But we will. Mother was a unique woman with an unusually broad range of interests and knowledge. She was beautiful, intelligent, kind, wise, and raised us to be hard working, ethical, compassionate people, to love art, music, literature, and to always follow our conscience. She possessed a positive attitude and ability to live in the present accepting whatever challenges fate brought to her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh that was unforgettable. When she was present everything was fun, she made it that way. Time to make the angels laugh mom. Her early guidance and continuing support cautioned us when we were on the wrong path (and she was always right). She gently and lovingly pointed out the blind spots in our "brilliant" fields of vision! She provided a smile to everyone and her warm, genuine and nonjudgmental demeanor endeared her to all who knew her. Her sense of fairness and ability to touch the lives of others in a profound and meaningful way were hallmarks of her character. Her lifelong wish was that people love and respect each other even if they did not agree. Although she accomplished much in life of which she could be proud, her greatest joy was found in her role as wife and mother. Tender hearted and utterly selfless, her devotion to her family transcended everything she did. She never failed to put the needs of her family before her own. She was the definition of love. Her focus on family was the essence of her productive and happy life. We were blessed to have parents who were deeply in love. There were never voices raised in anger or criticism, and they shared mutual respect and trust. Material things we did not have in abundance but we felt rich in the warmth and protection of the unconditional love we received. The memory of the sound of our mothers remarkably beautiful singing throughout the house as she worked warms our hearts. We extend our heartfelt thank you to those who loved, supported, comforted and shared great friendships with our mother during her lifetime. She was thankful for every kindness. Blessings to those of you who contributed to her happiness. She leaves behind a multitude of relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Her cherished sister Dorothy and brother Harry she knew and loved the longest. She deeply loved Terry, Susie, Brett, Lara, Erin, Matt, Pete, Bev, Linda and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She loved you dearly and you know who you are. Our gratitude to Nadine, Mendel, and Fred who always brought her laughter. We are grateful to her caregivers of the past several years who treated her competently, gently, and with kindness, compassion and humor. Special gratitude to Lisa and "Brodie" for the tender care and for loving her. With you not here mom it doesn't feel as though the world is turning. Our Mom loved the printed Christmas cards sent to family and friends each year. They always read; Bee, Kenny, Karen, and Mike, always the four of us. We shared a loving and happy life together. Now we are Karen and Mike. We honored our Mother's request that no services be held. So like her, that no one be bothered to make a "fuss" over her. If you wish to honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Someday others will not suffer as she did. "God saw you getting tired, And a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come to Me". With tearful eyes We watched you suffer And saw you fade away, Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts To prove to us He only takes the best!" Thank you for loving us mother.
