Richfield, Utah - Our generous and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend, Earl Garr Curtis, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 5, 2013 in Monroe, Utah.
He was born July 3, 1921, in Aurora, Utah, a son of Earl Jabez and Myrtle Sheba Jensen Curtis. Garr was raised in the local area and graduated from Richfield High School. He served as an LDS missionary in the Texas/Mexico mission and later attended Brigham Young Academy. He furthered his education at the College of California Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, California, where he received his Embalming and Funeral Directors degree. Garr was an accountant for U.S. Gypsum in Sigurd, for 30 years, and worked as a part-time mortician for Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
He married Faye Carol Crawford, November 6, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died August 26, 2006.
Garr enjoyed producing a bounteous garden, which he shared with family and friends. Furthermore, he was known for his hand-made candy that delighted all recipients. His greatest treasure was his posterity and The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Garr's life was full of service to others. He served in various church callings including being a member of the bishopric in the Richfield 7th Ward. He and Faye's favorite calling was serving as Stake Dance Directors.
Garr was a member of The Governor's Council on Aging, the JayCees, the Historical Society, and was the President of the Richfield Senior Citizens for 2 terms. Garr spoke fluent Spanish and volunteered his time at Ashman and Pahvant Elementary Schools helping children to overcome language barriers.
Garr, Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, you showed us that life is to be enjoyed. Your infectious humor, twinkling smile, and positive attitude will be missed. Until we meet again, we will continue to "Hold on to our hats."
He is survived by his children: David E. and Dawn Curtis of Salt Lake City; Karen and Tim Sperry of Bremerton, Washington; Ruth and Jim Dallas of Sandy; Camille and Jay Ogden of Richfield; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul J. and Ann Curtis of Salt Lake City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Earl J. Curtis; his beloved wife, Faye; and two sisters: Beth Beckstead and Madge Ricker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
