Sarah Cook married John Styles Carter March 5, 1838, in Bartholomew Co., Indiana. She and several other members of her family, including her parents and sister Margaret, were originally buried in the Cook family cemetery on their farm. This site is now located under the tarmack of the Columbus Municipal Airport. The Army relocated the graves to Liberty Cemetery in 1942 when the airport was built for World War II.

An infant son, William L. Carter, is buried nearby. Only the top portion of his marker remains, with no dates available, but the tiny fragment is only a few feet from the mother's gravestone.
