Ed was united in marriage to Helene Fernau in 1962. Following their marriage, Ed worked for Lundt Plumbing in Spencer before going to work for a gas utility company in Estherville, Spencer, and Jackson, MN. After 28 years with the gas company, Ed retired in 1995. Ed then worked as a Mitigation DAE for FEMA. He helped with tornado and flood disasters.
Ed was a member of the United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg, IA. He served on the City Councils in Estherville and Jackson, and on the Planning and Zoning Board in Spencer. He served with the Fire Departments of Spencer and Estherville. He was also chairman for the Flagfest Parade in Spencer for 8 years.
Ed was always busy with a building project or fixing something. His most gratifying payment for a job was completing a project that someone said couldn't be done.
On Feb. 21, 2004, Ed passed away at the Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City, AZ, at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his parents, and oldest son, Greg.
He is survived by his wife, Helene, of Sun City West, AZ; one son, Dwight, of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter-in-law, Toni Quillin, of Spencer, IA; two sister-in-laws: Elizabeth Brugman and her husband Wayne of Sun City West, AZ; Evelyn Smith and her husband, Don of Spencer, IA; mother-in-law Josie England of Ruthven, IA; other relatives and many friends.
