Emily Rocque Coash 1921 - 2010 A Memorial Service for Emily Rocque Coash will be held at Doughty-Calhoun- O'Meara Chapel, 1100 Truxtun Avenue on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the family plot in Bowling Green, Ohio. Emily died at home in Bakersfield on December 20, 2010. Emily was born on August 3, 1921 in Greenwood, South Dakota to Leo and Julie Smith Rocque. Emily was part Sioux Indian via her father. She spent her formative years in Pawhuska, OK. She graduated from the University of Texas at Galveston as a Registered Nurse and served as a U.S. Navy Nurse in WWII. Later Emily graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.S. Degree in Nursing and a Certificate in Public Health Nursing. At the University of Colorado, Emily met and married her husband of 62 years, John R. Coash. John and Emily came to Bakersfield in August 1968 when John was appointed Dean of Sciences at the new Cal. State University located in Bakersfield. Emily worked as a Public Health Nurse at the Kern County Health Department until retirement. Emily participated in many activities at CSUB, was a member of AAUW, DAR, Chapter MB-PEO, and All Saints Episcopal Church. Emily was preceded in death by their fourteen year old son, John. She is survived by her husband, John; son, Tom and his wife Julie of 27 years; daughter, Mary Coash; grandsons, John Morrison and Michael Morrison of Pinon Pines; sisters, Mrs. Fred P. Thomas, Houston, TX, and Mrs. Wayne Swoveland, Tucson, AZ, and Mrs. Somsavanh Mancevice, Bakersfield, a former foreign exchange student from Laos, who has been a part of the Coash family for many years. Emily and John ask that any donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Leo F.
