Ruby Layon Barker Speechly completed her lifes 93 – year journey on October 23, 2003. Ruby was the second of twelve children born to Albert W. and Edith Marsh Barker on September 29,1920. She was born, raised and educated in Ogden Utah. Ruby married her sweetheart Roy H. Speechly in 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. They celebrated 69 years together. Their early years of marriage were cemented by their decision and dedication to write each other every day while Roy was in the Navy serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Hundreds of letters were exchanged which kept their bond strong during this long separation.

Ruby has had many accomplishment s in this life, but has always felt that her highest achievement was raising her five children. She was a dedicated, loving mother. She and Roy made many sacrifices to make certain their children had a strong foundation that encouraged personal growth, development, education, love of God and service. She has been a strong influence for good, kindness, and an amazing example of strength and love to all that have associated with her, especially her family.

She has been a n active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life and has served in many positions. Some of her favorite opportunities were writing music, lyrics, and stories for church road shows and Relief Society programs. Ruby had a special gift for writing music, lyrics, and poetry but was reserved about sharing her talent. She was a scrapbooker before it was popular and wrote about her daily life and the happenings of her family in diaries that have proven to be invaluable records.

She and Roy enjoyed traveling the world and instilled that love of travel in each of their children and grandchildren. She has been a wonderful example of charity, endurance, optimism and having great faith and trust in a loving Father in Heaven. We will miss you mom!

Ruby is survived by her children, Richard (Melanie) Speechly, Sherrie (Scott) Hansen, Craig (Gayle) Speechly, Brent (Holli) Speechly and Suzan (Max) Bruce, one sister, Delta Spendlove, one brother, Dee Barker, three sisters-in-law and one brother in-law.

Ruby and Roy had five children, 24 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren who will dearly miss her.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Roy, her parents, nine siblings, and two great-grandchildren.

Interment, Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park.
