They arrived in New York in Aug of 1846, then continued on until they arrived at the "Holyland" otherwise known as Fond du Lac County, WI. There Stephan bought land in Calumet, Fond du Lac County, WI. By the 1860 census it had accumulated to an est. worth of $2000; by 1870 listed as est. worth of $3400. He worked, managed, eventually retired, and died on the homestead farm in Fond du Lac County.
