Christian Ziegler was born in Schopfloch, Freudenstadt, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, son of Michael Ziegler (1808, of Schopfloch) and Elisabeth Catharina Finkbohner (1809-1852); grandson of Johannes Ziegler and Anna Maria Weißer.

In Sept 1856, he traveled from Bremen, Germany to New York with his sister Rosine Ziegler, and initially lived with his elder brother John Ziegler (1832-1910) in Genesee Co, NY, latter who had previously immigrated to NY in 1851.

Christian married Mary Emily Hatch c. 1868 likely in Genesee County, NY, and by 1870 settled in Parma, Monroe, NY until 1880, when he moved his family west, grafting fruit trees for farmers.

Christian moved briefly to Kearney, Nebraska then to Coopersville, Ottawa, MI circa 1882-83 before he purchased land 1884 in LeRoy, Osceola County, MI.
