It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Frances Beaton-Bonar, 89, a resident of Georges River, on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at the Northside Community Guest Home.Born in Bras d'Or, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Little) Marmo.
Frances had lived in Ontario for many years and while there had worked at several jobs, from Tim Hortons, to office work for her son-in-law, George Summers.
Frances returned to Cape Breton in 2005 and has been a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home for the past three years.
She was a member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d'Or, a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, was an avid card and bingo player and enjoyed listening to music, especially Daniel O'Donnell.
She is survived by her four daughters, Julie Kavanagh, Toronto, Mary 'Sissy' (Floyd) Fraser, Georges River, Theresa (Kevin) Carroll, Milton, Ont., Sylvia (Lorne) MacDonald, River Ryan; by her 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Frances was predeceased by her first husband, Jim Beaton, her second husband, John Bonar, her sons, Lloyd and Frank Beaton, her daughter, Phyllis and a child in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney
