Henson Royce McKissack (Mac), of Yukon, OK, was born Sept. 19, 1926 at Hartford, AL, and departed this life on January 22, 2011. He served in the Air Force during WWII as a radio/radar operator on B29 and the B17 aircraft. He earned his bachelor's degree from John Brown University in Radio and TV production. He worked several years as a radio news anchor and a TV commercial personality in the Tulsa area. In 1957, he began his career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller, and retired in 1988. He had many hobbies, his favorite being music. He sang with the OK Chorale (Barbershoppers) for 40 years, played guitar with the Senior Serenaders of Midwest City and sang in the choir at Kelham Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, Harris and Leila McKissack; one brother, Harris, Jr.; two sisters, Marilyn Kolp and Maxine Bell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Verla McKissack; three sons: John, Amarillo, TX; Roger, Wimberley, TX; and Jerry, Dharan, Saudi, Arabia; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers: Lamar and Billy McKissack, Pensacola, FL; Jimmy McKissack, Brewton, AL; Bobby McKissack, Wing, AL; and two sisters: Jane Fowler, Andalusia, AL; and Geraldine Reilly, Columbus, GA.
