Frank E. Bedford Funeral Held Sunday, August 10
Funeral services for Frank E. Bedford,87 , of Lyle , who died Thursday, August 7, were held Sunday afternoon, August 10 at the Bethel Alliance church in Lyle with the Rev. Charles Finley officiating.
Frank Erastus Bedford was born on the Bedford homestead in Lyle township June 6 , 1893, the son of Robert Townsend and Elizabeth (McCanna) Bedford, the eldest of a family of five. His boyhood was spent on the family farm and he attended Woodbury District school.
March 15, 1916 he married Leffie Belle Anderson at the home of the bride in Lyle. He served a year in the Armed Forces in World War I, six months of that time in France.
After the war the Bedfords lived on and operated the family farm for three years. Then they lived for a time in Lyle where he worked as a carpenter, and for a time ran a gasoline and oil truck. In 1923 they moved to Devonia, Iowa where they operated a grocery store in partnership with his brother, Roy.
In 1928 they moved back to Lyle where he operated an automobile sales business until he retired. He continued to live in the same home until his death.
Mr. Bedford was a lifetime member of the American Legion, having helped organize a post in Floyd and later helped organize Post 105 in Lyle of which he was commander at one time. He had served as president of the Woodbury cemetery board of directors for 26 years. He was affiliated with the Bethel Alliance church in Lyle.
Mr. Bedford is survived by his wife, Leffie; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Blanche) Greiner and Mrs. Russell (Helen) Ashley of Austin; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Olson of Austin, and several nieces.
Burial was in Woodbury cemetery with Rev. Finley in charge of committal services.
