Robert L. Hively, 87, passed away on October 17, 2013.

He was born January 9, 1926 in Akron to the late Rector Camden and Rosa Hively. He moved to Spencer, W.Va. in 1929 and graduated from Spencer High School in 1943. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and was in the V12 program until the end of World War II when he received his wings in the Marine Corps. He was called back in at the beginning of the Korean War and served another 17 months. He graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950 and completed his Master's degree in Engineering in 1963. He worked for Goodyear Aerospace as an electrical engineer and then Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Akron and in Jackson, Ohio from 1976 until 1984 when he returned to Akron working in Machine Design and retiring in 1990 with 40 years of service.

Robert was a member of Norton Baptist Church. He was Past Master of Victory Lodge #649 F.M., Past High Priest of Portage Chapter #202 R.A.M., Past Illustrious Commander of Akron Council #80 R. & S.M., Past Commander of Akron Commandry #25 K.T. and a recipient of the Knight York Cross of Honor. He was a member of Scottish Rite A.S.S.R. Valley of Akron and a member of A.M.D. He was a Past Patron of Fernleaf Chapter #422 and currently a member of Anna Dean Chapter.

He loved music and singing in the choir and in quartets. He loved playing guitar with his son, Paul. He enjoyed Gospel and Bluegrass music and anything that Paul played. He enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, golf, watching the Cleveland Indians on t.v., camping and traveling with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his infant son, David E.; father and mother-in-law, George and Icy Bagwell; and sister, Evelyn (Gerald) McClure. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Norma (Bagwell); son, Paul; daughters, Susan (Bob) Grigsby and Carla (Todd) Hoff; grandchildren, Angela Moses, Jeremy (Emily) Grigsby, Joshua Grigsby, Amanda (Shaun) Cox, Carter, Taylor, and Madison Hoff; six great-grandchildren; sister, Moselle O'Brien; brother, James; and brother and sister-in-law, James and Billie Bagwell.

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m., with a Masonic service by Victory Lodge #649 F.M. beginning at 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Norton Baptist Church, 4239 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd, Norton on Monday at 10:30 a.m., Pastor Dwight Strickland officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
