Howard Owen Wisdom passed away July 31, 1990 in Tumacacori, Arizona. He was born January 18, 1912 in Valley View, Texas to William Washington and Jeanniebelle Compton Wisdom.He was one of fourteen children. Howard moved to Arizona at the age of 17 and worked on the Baca Float Ranch where he was promoted to foreman. Howard married Petra Gomez at age 19 and their children were William, Herbert, Jeanniebelle, Jesse, Herlinda and Howard Jr. Howard was a natural born cowboy, an athlete in a saddle. His competitive energy resulted in numerous injuries over the years. Partnership disputes on the Baca Float forced Howard to seek employment elsewhere and he went to work for Doty Construction Company and helped build the road from Nogales to Tuscon. Howard was an energetic man and built and opened Wisdom Cafe in 1948. In addition to the cafe he formed a rodeo club and built a roping arena behind the restaurant. Howard worked for the Calabasas school where he was "Mister Everything" including bus driver, janitor, plumber, painter, big brother, counselor. Howard was also the first athletic coach at Calabasas School teaching children baseball, basketball and track. He was very athletic and very fast. Howard was a 4-H club leader and loved sharing his knowledge of livestock with young people. On July 31, 1990, diabetes beat Howard Wisdom, but not without a fight. Howard will be remembered as a loving husband and father. His contributions to his fellowman have made this a better world and we are proud of his life and his accomplishments.
