Elijah aka Elisha Smith is often misrepresented. He was acknowledged in the History of Greene County, New York as Elisha, but in the tax records of Amenia, Dutchess County, New York he is listed as Elijah Smith from 1770 to 1790. On page 168 of Alstyne's 'Burying Grounds of Sharon, CT, Amenia and North East, NY": "Elijah died at 82 and is buried in the Spencer's Corners Burying Grounds" However, the definitive fact is a copy of Elijah Smith's will, transcribed below.

History of Greene County, New York by Frederick L. Beers, pg 40:
"Elisha Smith was the father of eleven children: Jesse, Elijah, Enoch, Munson, Platt, Sally, wife of Isaac Mygatt, Abigail, Huldah, the wife of Bethel Mather, Sarah, Anna, the wife of Simon Buel, and Hamet, the wife of Alexander Neely. Abigail Smith's first husband was Isaac Hopkins, and they had a daughter, Hannah, and a son Smith Hopkins, whose descendants are living in Orleans county."
