Helen Elizabeth Benson, 84, of rural Earlville (Rollo) passed away on Monday, August 7, 2006 at the Lena Living Center, Lena, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 10 at the Rollo United Church of Christ, Suydam Road, Earlville, Pastor David Bateman officiating. Burial in Stevens Cemetery, Earlville. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Torman Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Mrs. Benson was born January 2, 1922 in Genoa, Illinois to Harvey and Iona (Eichler). She attended the teacher's college at what is now Illinois State University. She was united in marriage in Genoa, IL, on September 1, 1945 to B.L. (Bill) Benson and the family farmed for many years in the Rollo area. She was an active and long-time member of the Rollo United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Women's Fellowship, Pairs and Spares, a Sunday school teacher, and a willing worker at the church's annual Turkey Supper. She was an active member and strong supporter of the Rollo Community. Helen also served for many years as an election worker for Paw Paw Township. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friends who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband; four sons, Wayne (Olga) of Lena, IL, David (Mary Ann) of Plano, IL, Scot of Rollo, and Richard (Patti) of Lancaster, WI. 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jerry Maple; two sister-in-laws, Leota Benson and Barb Eichler; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Donald; and infant sister and her daughter, Karen Maple.
