PLYMOUTH, Ill. -- George L. Akers, 69, a retired farmer of Plymouth, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday (July 29, 1992) in McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Born Sept. 11, 1922, in Floyd County, Va., Mr. Akers was a son of Sidney Taylor and Mettie Kathryn John Dec. 24, 1945, in Macomb. She survives.

Mr. Akers attended Page School and graduated in 1941 from Plymouth High School. He was a 42-year member and deacon of Plymouth Assembly of God Church. During World War II, Mr. Akers served in the Army. He also was a member of the Plymouth American Legion and a former member of the Hancock County Soil Conservation Board.

Survivors also include his mother of Plymouth; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Connie) Corder of Plymouth; a son, Ron Akers of Plymouth; three brothers, Eldon and Loren Akers, both of Plymouth, and James Akers of Carthage; and four grandchildren, Todd Corder of Macomb, and Adam, Austin and Ashly Akers, all of Plymouth.

Mr. Akers was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Adron Akers; and a sister, Avery Allen.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Plymouth Assembly of God Church by the Rev. Henry Nash and the Rev. James Crew. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery near Plymouth.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Plymouth.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
