DR. DANIEL CORNMAN.

Sketch of His Life - His Claim to an Immense German Estate.

Thursday we briefly noticed the death of Dr. Daniel Cornman, brother of H. J. Cornman. Esq , of this city, which took place at Belmont (sic), Wright county (sic), Iowa. Dr. Cornman for many years practiced his profession in Pittsburgh, and was considered one of the most respected and skilled physicians in the State. Born at Carlisle, Pa., in 1825, Dr. Cornman became a student at the Dickinson College in his native town and subsequently entered the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated as a physician in 1849. For a few years he continued the practice of his profession in Carlisle, where his parents and family connections ranked in the community as people of the highest respectability. The prospects in the small Cumberland county (sic) village not being of the brightest chararcter (sic), however, the young physician concluded to remove to Pittsburgh, where he had an idea that his ambitious hopes and aspirations would meet with greater success. Accordingly, in 1858, Dr. Cornman went to Pittsburgh and opened an office on Penn avenue (sic), where he continued to practice his profession with flattering success until 1867, when, owing to failing health, he returned to Carlisle. Here he remained for about a year, when he returned to Pittsburgh and engaged in the drug business on Center avenue (sic), which he conducted up to August of last year, when his health became such that a change of climate became necessary, and he therefore went to Iowa, where he continued to reside until the hour of his demise. Dr. Cornman leaves a wife and a family of grown-up sons and daughters. He was also a brother of Mr. Ephraim Cornman, editor of the Carlisle Democrat, and a politician of some notoriety in the Cumberland valley. During the latter portion of his life, Dr. Cornman was actively engaged in hunting up the records of his ancestors and kindred, for the purpose of prosecuting their claims to an immense estate of $50,000,000, left by Admiral Wunderlich, of the German navy, who died at Amsterdam in 1791. This vast property was placed by the German bankers having it in trust, to the credit of the heirs, among whom was Dr. Cornman and the Wunderlich family. Unfortunately, in the midst of his researches, the former died just as he was about to see his long desired hope reach its consummation, for at the time of his demise the majority of the living heirs had been traced up and identified.
