Melvin N. Wippel, 71, Rt. 4 Ellensburg, died Friday in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Yakima. He was born July 5, 1909 in Ellensburg, a son of the late Simon and Gertrude Wippel.
He attended Lourdes Academy and Ellensburg High School and farmed in the Woldale District until retirement in 1973. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Kittitas County Farm Bureau, Wool Growers Association and the Silver Circle.
He and Ann Houlahan were married in Seattle on Jun 16, 1956. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one brother, Harold Wippel of Portland, Ore., and a sister, Mrs. Gene (Helen) Bray of Ellensburg.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at St. Andrew's Church. Fr. Richard Wuertz will officiate. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
