Sophia was the daughter of John and Hannah (Rice) Reed. She married (first) May 7, 1843, James Buker, the son of John and Mary (Wheeler) Buker. James Buker died in 1858, and Sophia married (second) Gilbert Hankins in August 1862. Gilbert Hankins died September 2, 1881. Sophia and James Buker had five children, and Sophia and Gilbert Hankins had one child.

According to Sophia's Certificate of Death, Registration District No. 417, File No. 1591, Primary Registration District No. 3021, Registered No. 12, Sophia died at the corner of Ball & Daugherty, in Webb City, MO. She was white, widowed, 87 years and 5 months old. Her occupation was housekeeper and she was employed at home.

Sophia's father was John Reed, birthplace Berkeley County, West Virginia (now West Virginia). Her mother was Hannah Rice, birthplace Mercer County, Pennsylvania.

Cause of death was Intra Copsular Fracture of left femur, duration of 2 months, 25 days. Contributory cause was Senility.
