Death of George G. Simpson
Wednesday afternoon, George G. Simpson died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas Cain, on West South street, at 1:15 o'clock aged 83, after a short illness of pneumonia. The funeral was held yesterday morning at 10 a.m. and the body taken to Augusta for burial.
Deceased was a native of North Carolina, where he was born May 12, 1821. He came to Illinois in the fall of 1848. He was married to Martha Elizabeth Aldridge, February 10, 1848 and to them were born four children, of whom Mrs. Thomas Cain of this city is the sole survivor.
While still a young man Mr. Simpson located near Augusta where he lived until four years ago he came to live with his daughter. He was a member of the Christian Church and Rev. N. E. Cory, pastor, conducted the funeral service.

George was the son of Benjamin Swain Simpson and his second wife, Margaret Garrison Simpson.)
