Hugo F. Bretz, 58, died yesterday at his home. He was a well-known business man and leader in this community.
Mr. Bretz was born in Huntingburg on March 29, 1896, the son of Louis J. and Catherine Mueller Bretz. On August 30, 1921, he was married to Mabel Schmutzler, who survives.
During the first World War he served in the Navy from April of 1917 until May of 1919.
His hobby was flying, and he spent much of his leisure time flying his own plane which was stationed at the Huntingburg Airport.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel Schmutzler; a son, Donald "Bud" Bretz; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Landgrebe and Mrs. Otto C. Wulfman; the brother, Oscar; and a grandson.
