John Wesley Cummings, 88, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 14th at First Baptist Church, Grain Valley; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the 76ers Historical Society.

John was born November 6, 1924, in Blue Ridge, Missouri, the son of Vincel and Grace Cummings. He was a firefighter for 32 years, retiring as a Captain for the City of Independence. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Grain Valley, Family Motorcoach, and Methodist NCA. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling and fishing. John was also a pilot and an avid RVer.

John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

His survivors include his wife of 35 years, Delores Rains Cummings; two sons: Dan & Lisa Cummings, and John Randall & Michelle Cummings, and the sons' mother, Evelyn June Cummings; son, Ronald & Donna Rains; three grandchildren: Shay Cummings, Richard Rains, & Nancy Rains; four great-grandchildren: Alex, Jacque, Parker, & Wesley Rains; three sisters: Maxine Hendren, Edith June Wiley, & Joann Hillyard; two brothers: R.T. & Dixie Cummings, Larry & Melva Cummings; many cousins; several nieces & nephews; and countless friends.
