Vernon C. Haman, the son of Katherine (Schumacher) and Clemence Haman, was born in Rugby, North Dakota on May 29, 1963.

Vern attended school in Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School in 1981. He attended college in Wahpeton and received a degree in diesel mechanics. He later attended Ferris State in Michigan where he received his degree in Industrial Environmental Safety Engineering. After college, he worked for Amway for five years, and then moved with his family to Roseau, MN in 1999 when he took a job with Polaris Industries. He loved his job at Polaris Ind. and met many wonderful friends while working and living in Roseau.

Vern's family was most important to him. He and Sandra (Koble) were married in Orrin, ND, on June 9, 1990. They have three wonderful children, Ashley C., Monique C., and John C., of whom Vern spent as much time as he could with. He loved them dearly.

Our beloved husband, father, son, in-law, friend, and co-worker entered into his eternal heaven with family and friends at his side after a long, hard battle with cancer. Vern was loved and respected by many people throughout his life. Vernon was a devoted husband; loving father; loyal son, brother, and brother-in-law; and an unforgettable best friend, coworker, and friend. Whomever Vernon met, he touched their lives in a way, which will never be forgotten. He was known by all for his sincere kindness, caring, generosity, compassion, and unconditional giving, but most of all for his passion and courage to fight for what he believed in. He will eternally live in our hearts through the many, many wonderful memories he left us with. As Vernon spread his wings and soared like an eagle, through our lives, he left us with memories, which will be everlastingly treasured. We will forever miss, Vernon, our angel god blessed us with.

Vern had many hobbies and interests, but he especially loved NASCAR, especially the #3, Dale Earnhardt Sr., and the #8, Dale Jr. He was able, after his first surgery, to meet and spend a day with Dale Jr. on Polaris 4-wheelers in a promotional event. After hearing about Vern's condition, Dale Jr. befriended him for the day. It was a highlight in Vern's life. Vern also enjoyed music, 4-wheeling, snow-mobiling, playing cards, and gathering on his bed with his family on weekends and watching movies. Vern also met Richard Petty when he was in Roseau and had his motorcycle autographed by him.

Vern fought a long battle with cancer that started in 2001. He passed away at his home in Roseau surrounded by his family and friends on Friday, July 14, 2006. He was 43 years old.

Vern is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Roseau, three children Ashley, Monique, and John; parents Clemence and Katherine of Rugby, ND; brothers Gary (Cindy) of Rolette, ND, Pete (Linda) of Douglas, WY, and Curtis (Belinda) of Dunseith, ND; sisters Kathy (Bruce) Praska of Lakeshore, MN, Joyce (Kendal) Wedan of Dubuque, IA, Mary Lou (Jack) Smart of Gillette, WY, Karen (Mickey) Hoffner of Esmond, ND.
