Dennis M. Carpenter, 59, a life long Rush County resident, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 at Rush Memorial Hospital due to suffering a massive heart attack.

He was born February 27, 1954 in Rushville to J.D. & Nadine (Griffin) Carpenter. He married Doretta "Dee" (Ailes) Stevens on December 31, 2002 and she survives. Dennis & Dee had been together since 1988.

Dennis was a US Marine Corp. veteran, serving from 1974-1978. He drove large wreckers for Davis Towing & Recovery nearly 22 years. He was a mechanic working from home many years and also drove a truck for K&W Fueling, Wilson Farms, Gettinger Farms, Jay Long Caldwell & Brian Batten Farms.

Dennis had a passion for racing stock cars. He raced several years at Mt. Lawn, New Castle & Union County Speedways. He & his wife Dee, along with family & friends, loved going to Haspen Acre's in Laurel with their 4x4. He also enjoyed flying remote control helicopters and helping others out when he could.

In addition to his wife, Dee, of Rushville, he is survived by his mother, Nadine Carpenter of Rush County, a daughter, Jennifer Jones of Shelbyville, step daughter, Royetta & husband Phil Murray of Connersville, brothers, Steve of Shelbyville, Jay, Eric, Jeff & wife Paula, Duane & wife Edith, Tim & wife Jo, Brian & wife Heather, Chris & wife Bobbie and Derrick & wife Billie Carpenter, all of Rushville, sisters, Brenda Newman, Beth Scott & Karrie Carpenter, all of Rushville, grandchildren, Blake Anderson & Bayleigh & Benjamin Webb all of Shelbyville and step granddaughters, Marie & Sophie Murray of Connersville.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.D. in 2002.

Dennis will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved him.

Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville with John Wall presiding.

Friends are welcome to visit at the mortuary from 4-8PM on Tuesday, October 8.

Burial will be in the Arlington East Hill Cemetery and military rites will be provided by the Rush County Veteran's Honor Guard.
