James S. (Jim) Dillinger, 81, former fire chief of Texaco, Inc., and a former 50-year resident of Port Arthur, died Sunday at noon at Milam Nursing Home in Beaumont where he had been a resident for a few weeks.

A longtime member of First Christian church of Port Arthur and a former deacon in the church, Mr. Dillinger came to Port Arthur from Kentucky in 1915. He worked for Texaco 39 years before retiring in 1954. He and his wife, Mrs. Mary Dillinger, moved to Beaumont two years ago. The couple lived at 650 Sixth street there at the time of his death.

Mr. Dillinger was an honorary member of the Fire Chiefs Association of America and was a member of Cosmopolitan Masonic Lodge 872, AF&AM, of Port Arthur.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Dillinger is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Herman Blanton of Beaumont, who is a professor at Lamar Tech, Mrs. Ernest H. Fincher of Fort Worth and Mrs. Brockett Hudson of Seabrook; nine grandchildren; one brother, George Dillinge of Groves; and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Cook of Groves and Mrs. Lula Back of Harrodsburg, Ky.

The family will receive friends at Nunnelly-Stanley Funeral home tonight from 7 until 9 o'clock. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at First Christian church of Port Arthur with Dr. James R. Wright, Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial park.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Dillinger's two grandsons, James Ernest (Jeff) Fincher of Fort Worth and Tom Hudson of Seabrook, and also Steve Vaugat, Robert Hubert Davis, R. W. Draughon and Henry P. _oote.
