Mr. Byrd, of Chickasaw heritage and a former resident of Ada, Rosedale, OK and Kennewick, WA, died at Colonial Nursing Home, Pauls Valley, Garvin Co., OK.

He was the husband of Rosedale resident, Dorothy (Yoakum) Byrd, also of Chickasaw heritage and daughter of the late Leonard and Love (Green) Yoakum, longtime OK pioneers.

Born in the Chickasaw Nation, IT, he was an enrolled member of the Chickasaws, #5463.

His parents were Benjamin Franklin Byrd* and Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" (Goldsby) Byrd. (Ben: 17 Jan 1849, Doaksville, Towson Co. Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory , d. 23 Nov 1915 and Mamie: b. 1866, Chickasaw Nation, IT d. 1909, Ada, OK. They were wed on 9 Mar 1890).

*In 1871, his father, brother of Gov. William Leander Byrd, chief of the Chickasaw Nation, first married Nannie Willson and settled in Stonewall. Ben and JM Perry owned the Stonewall general store from about 1882-1887. Tragically, Nannie passed away in 1872 shortly after giving birth to her only child, a daughter, Nannie Byrd, who would grow up to marry Clark Wasson, a successful polititian and member of the OK legislature. Of Chickasaw heritage, he was the son of John Byrd (1820-1864) and Mary (Moore) Byrd (1819-1878). His brother, William Leander Byrd, was a Governor of the Chickasaw Nation.

In 1871, he first married Nannie Wilson, born in 1851, but she died in 1872, shortly after giving birth to their only child, a daughter, Nannie, (1872-1956), who married Clark Brown Wasson and their union produced 7 Wasson children.

In 1874, he married Melissa "Molsie" Colbert, (1859-1880), who died at or after childbirth and born of this union were 4 children: Lillie, 1875, John F, 1876-1877, George Franklin, 1878, and Wm. Leander, 1880-1958.

In 1890, he married Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" Goldsby (1866-1910). Born of this union were 7 children: Lonnie E, 1891, Roy Neal, 1892, Lula May, Harriett "Hattie" Zelma, 1896-1900, Benjamin F., 1900, Monette, 1902 and Carl Elwin Byrd, 1907-1989.
