Charles William Anderson was born about 1871, son of William and Emma Woodburn Anderson. He was one of seven children: William AndersonJr, Emma "Delia" Anderson Hendrickson, Frederick Anderson, Lettie Anderson, Robert Anderson and Cora Anderson. He left Port Ontario in 1890 and followed his older brother, Frederick into the U. S Life Saving Service He trained at the Life Station in Erie Pa and worked there for several summers. Soon after he entered, Capt Anderson was promoted to the rank of captain and placed in command of the Ashtabla, Ohio Station. There he served for 19 years.About 1913 he married Agnes Donahue, daughter of John and Margaret Donahue of Buffalo, N Y. He then transferred to Buffalo where he became assistant inspector. Later, he was made inspector of all stations from Ogdensburg to Hammond Bay, Mich. From 1928 until his retirement on October 1, 1933 he was in command of Port Austin station. During his 43 years of service, Captain Anderson participated in more than 300 rescues. Less than three months after his retirement, Charles died of a heart attack in the early hours of December 25, 1933 at a Christmas Eve service in Buffalo where the couple were then living. Funeral services were held in the family residence at 190 Massachusetts Ave and in Nativity Church. Burial was in Mt Calvary Cemetery in Cheektowaga. Charles and Agnes had no children.
