A Celebration of Life for Marcus W. "Mark Monroe, 87, Ormond Beach, who passed away Friday March 28, 2008, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County, Orange City, will be held Thursday, April 3, at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond Chapel. His family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. with Chaplain James Smith officiating a brief memorial service at 2 p.m. A formal memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 N. Halifax Avenue, Ormond Beach. Entombment will be at St. James Episcopal Church Memorial Garden.
Mark was born April 11, 1920, in Brant Lake, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 774th "Blackcat" Tank Battalion. He married Eva L. Gillis of Salem, N.Y., in 1951.
Mark worked for Bob Clarke Pontiac in Glens Falls, N.Y., and received recognition for outstanding sales and accomplishments five years running. He was also named president of the Pontiac Master Sales-mans Guild for five years. He owned and operated Mark Monroe Auto Sales in Glens Falls, N.Y., from 1960 until 1973 when he and his family relocated to Florida. Mark worked for the Florida Police Chief's Association for over ten years, and was a member of the Florida Police Chief's Association, the International Chiefs of Police Association and the Volusia County Police Chiefs Association. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel and a 46-year member of The Elks Lodge. He also owned and operated with his wife Townway Flower Shop in Ormond Beach. Mark was a master woodworker building furniture and fine moldings for family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eva; a son, Peter M. Monroe, Marble Falls, Texas; daughter, Mary Lou Brandstetter, Ocean Springs, Miss.; daughter, Dawn P. and her husband, Walter (Buddy) McKenzie, Titusville, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Melissa Anne Banks, and her husband, Bobby Banks, Jr., Savannah, Ga.
Mark was predeceased by eight brothers and four sisters.
