Drowned in the Cedar River, Black Hawk County, Iowa.

Cedar Falls Gazette | Cedar Falls, Iowa | Tuesday, July 07, 1903 | Page 1: LOST HIS LIFE--Edward Savage is the Latest Victim of the Cedar River. Yesterday afternoon a telephone message notified Marshal Enloe that another life had been lost in the Cedar River near the slaughter house and to bring help at once to assist in recovering the body. A large crowd of men and boys responded to the call. A seine was secured and the search began. The victim was Edward (Edgar),the seven year old son of David Savage. Early in the afternoon Mr. Savage's three sons went to the river to take a swim. The two older boys, George and Gibson, went across the river and left their brother Edward wading in the shallow water, telling him they, would return shortly. When they got back, Edward was not in sight. They called to him, but got no response. They found his clothes on the river bank and footprints in the sand told too plainly that their brother had gone down under the swift current never to rise again. At this point on the Cedar River there are a great many suck-holes, and it is feared the body has found its lodgment in one of them. At the hour of going to press the remains have not been recovered.
