He was born on August 8, 1935 in Cambridge City to Andrew and Irene (Norman) Burgess. He had retired from York Casket Co. in Lynn and was an avid NASCAR, Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Colts fan.
Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy A. (Mervin) Burgess of Winchester; four children, Mary (husband Mark) Anderson, Charles (friend Nicole) Burgess, David Burgess and Nancy (husband Leon) McCormick; five grandchildren, Jamie (husband Keith) Maloy, Courtney (friend Tyler Edwards) Anderson, Jennifer (husband Randy) Amonett, Travis Burgess and Courtney (husband Jeremy) Garcia; and six great grandchildren, Trenton Maloy, Mya Maloy, Cylus Anderson, Amry Edwards, Landon Amonett and Kinley Burgess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Norman "Jack" Burgess and William "Bill" Burgess; and two sisters, Joann Winchester and Mary Lou Matthews.
Graveside services will be held for the family on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester with Pastor Cecil Cook officiating.
Friends and relatives may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Main Street Christian Church, 220 S. Main St. in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Indiana Chapter, 55 E. 91st St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
