Thomas Bennett Freeman, called Tom, Bennett, or Pop, depending on who was speaking, was the oldest child of George W. and Zora Freeman.

He married Margaret Wilson on 17 Apr 1919, and they had two daughters, Jean and Bennette. After Margaret's death, he married Dorothy J. (Kempff) Bill.

Thomas Bennett earned a B.A and an honorary LL.D. from the University of Arkansas. He was President of Freeman & Co., AR, 1910-1929; Vice President and general manager of Scott-Burr Stores Corp, a subsidiary of Butler Bros., Chicago, IL, 1929-1935, President 1936-1939; President of Butler Brothers, 1939-1947, Chairman of the Board, 1947-1948, retired.; Director of Wilson & Co., Inc., and the Chicago Mem. 6th Regional War Labor Board, 1943-1945; President of the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry, 1945-1947; Director of the Cook County School of Nursing, 1946-1949; trustee of the Institute of Design, 1944-1949; member of the advisory board to the Chicago Park District, 1945-1950; Trustee of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation, 1947-1953; member of the council of medical and biological research of the University of Chicago, 1949-1953; director of the Tucson Festival of Arts, 1950-1955, Tucson Medical Center, 1951-1955, Tucson Symphony Society, 1952-1956; and grand trustee, Sigma Chi, 1935-1948.
