Anne was the daughter of Henry Sherman, a clothier of Dedham, England, and Susan Lawrence. She was born in August of 1575 and baptised in St. Mary the Virgin Church there on August 7, 1575. She married Anthony Whiting, also a prosperous clothier, on January 28, 1595 at the same church. Anthony and Anne had at least seven children, all probably born in Dedham. Anthony made his will in the fall of 1628. The will shows that he was indeed well-to-do. He had houses in three different towns, mentions farm land in addition to the homes, and bequeaths over 150 pounds to his children. Anthony died before July 1629.

In her will, she mentions her sons Anthony and John Whiting and her daughters Susan Cole and Phebe Bernard of New England. Anne was buried in the churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin in Dedham.
