Funeral services were held Sunday at the Jones Funeral Home in Spencer for Walter M. Banning of this city, who died Thursday morning, July 2, 1931, at the Spencer hospital following an operation for ruptured appendix. Rev. W. F. Hurst, pastor of the Church of Christ had charge of the services and burial was made Monday at Adel, Iowa, former home of Mr. Banning.
Walter M. Banning was born at Oakfield, Iowa, February 29, 1892, the son of Jacob and Rebecca Banning of Arnolds Park, Iowa. He came to Spencer in 1929 and was engaged in the ice business for the Arnolds Park Ice company until ten days prior to his death.
He was united in marriage February 21, 1916, to Olive Swanson of Stuart, Iowa, and to this union were born five daughters, two of whom preceded him in death, Mary Louise in 1916 and Anna Lillian in 1928. He departed from this life at the age of 39 years, 4 months and 2 days.
Beside his wife and three daughters, Fern, aged 13 years, Myrtle aged 8 years and an infant daughter, Marian, 4 months of age, he is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. E .Banning of Arnolds Park, Iowa, five brothers, three sisters and a host of friends and other relatives.
