On 21 Aug. 1862 at Enterprise, Mississippi, Frank A. Barber enlisted to fight for the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was a private in Company F, 26th Mississippi Infantry. He fought in several battles throughout Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky, and was wounded in at least three battles, and was imprisoned at Camp Morton in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Frank apparent took a leave of absence in about Sept. 1863, because his fifth child was born nine months later. His military records show that as of 14 Nov. 1864 Frank was "absent without leave." By then the war was nearly over so he must have returned home that fall.
Altogether Frank & Emily had seven children together, six boys and one girl. Frank lived to the ripe old age of 85 years and was buried next to his dear wife who died two and a half years earlier.
