Douglas Leon Andrus, of Madera, California, age 65, died September 17, 1993.

The seventh child of Ruth Viola Christensen and Clarence Loyal Andrus, Doug was born and raised at the family home in Holladay. Doug was a member of the Holladay First Ward until his LDS Church mission to Denmark, 1948-51. Later he served in the U.S. Navy, 1951-55.A professional writer for 35 years, he is also remembered for his talent as a musician, actor, teacher, speaker and poet. He willingly shared his gifts and influenced many lives. His energetic service is especially remembered by his former seminary and institute students. One could not have asked for a better father. Greatly blessed are the lives of his children as they carry on the torch flamed by his goodness and example.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, the former Rhea Hardy of Salt Lake City. She will miss him dearly, for he was her closest friend; his sons, Randal of Mesa, Ariz.; Keoki of North Bend, Wash.; Ben Kahananui of Lakeside, Calif.; and Danny Holi of San Diego, Calif.; and by his daughters, De Lane Hyer of Madera, Calif.; Marjorie McKinney of Mesa, Ariz.; and Jolene Hale of Orem; brothers, Roger of Salt Lake; Clarence of St. George; Stan of Hanford, Calif.; Willis of St. George; James of Glenwood, Jay of Price; sisters, Wanda Roberts of Lehi, and Vaudis Swensen of Corvalis, Oregon; and 39 grandchildren.

Viewing to be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 1993, at 627 West 850 South, Orem. Funeral services to be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, in the LDS chapel, 4568 Holladay Blvd. Graveside services to follow at the Holladay Memorial Park.
