Barbara E. (Chilton) Engle, of Terre Haute, passed peacefully from this life Thursday, Sept., 5, 2013, surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on Feb. 5, 1937, to Loudye and Bannie Voils Chilton. She and her husband married 20 Jun 1953 and were former owners and operators of Engle Laboratories.
She was a member of New Life Fellowship and had been a long time volunteer at both Terre Haute Regional and Union Hospitals. Barbara loved to read, and was known for her phenomenal baked desserts. She and her husband Everett loved to travel, and visited most of the national parks, but her greatest joy was being with family, friends, and loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Everett; a daughter, Rita Lutes and her husband Tony; and three sons, Tony Engle and his wife Sue, Mike Engle and his wife Lori, and Mark Engle and his wife Paula. She also is survived by a brother, Lawrence Chilton; three sisters, Henrietta Berry, Sandra Elder, and Nina Kelly; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and will also be sorely missed by her talking bird, "Charlie." She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandchild; and 11 other siblings.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at New Life Fellowship Church, 7849 Wabash Avenue, with the Rev. Jeffery Harpole officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation also will be at the church on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be made at:
