DUMAS — Oleta Kelley, 89 of Dumas died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in White Rose Cemetery in Raydon, Okla. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Oleta was born March 3, 1924, to Martha and Aubrey McEntire at home in rural Beckham County, Okla. She was one of 12 children and attended a small country school, Sunny Pointe, near Sweetwater, Okla.
She married the love of her life, Gene Kelley, at age 20, and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage. Both were from large families and held close family ties. Oleta rose to all the challenges of a country girl. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, homemaker, wonderful cook, canner and an accomplished seamstress. She loved to upholster and sew for her home, daughters and herself.
Oleta loved country music and was an avid dancer. She enjoyed attending senior dance clubs, and preferred not to sit out any dances.
"Though she will be missed, her time on Earth has passed away, leaving only fond memories and tears of sorrow."
Oleta was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gene.
Survivors include five children, Donna Axsom and husband Jerry of Greeley, Colo., Saundra "Sandy" Dendy of Elk City, Okla., Darla Kelley of Dumas, Reva Green and husband Virgil of Dumas and Steve Kelley and wife Linda of Canton, Okla.; four grandchildren, Shawn Shafer and wife Stacey of Dumas, Alexia Leturgez of Elk City, Michal Logan and husband Ed of Eaton, Colo., and Jade Green and wife Addyson of Fort Worth; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Lee of Elk City, Makenzie Shafer of Dumas and Dalton and Hayden Logan of Eaton; two sisters, Willie Cruze of Ada, Okla., and Eloise Blevins of Granite, Okla.
Honorary pallbearers include Shawn Shafer, Jade Green, Virgil Green, Jerry Axsom, Donnie McEntire and Curtis McEntire. In addition to a host of nieces and nephews, a special mention is given to her friend of many years, Phyllis Curpper of Pampa.
The family suggests memorials be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second St., Dumas, TX 79029.
