Sybil McKnight Buchwalter, 75, the owner of the R.N. Buchwalter Vending Machine Co., died Wednesday in a San Bernardino hospital. She was a native of Milton, Ore., and lived 33 years in Rialto.
She and her late husband, Buck, introduced the first vending machines to the San Bernardino area during the Depression. The business grew to be the largest independently owned vending machine company in California and was operated from the Rialto-San Bernardino area more than 45 years.
In addition to her duties with the company, Mrs. Buchwalter belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 596, the Bethany Presbyterian Church, and the National Automatic Merchandising Association of the United States. She was the president of the Federal Alarm and the Inland Desert Security and Communications of Rialto. She was a member and past president of the Rialto Women's Club and the Rialto Republican Women's Club.
Survivors include a son, Ralph McKnight Buchwalter of Rialto; two daughters, Susan Crawford of Grand Terrace and Irene B. Day of Terrebonne, Ore.; a brother, Elwood McKnight, and a sister, Sylvia Turner, both of Oregon, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in the Bethany Presbyterian Church, 1773 N. Riverside Ave., Rialto. Burial will be in the Rialto Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today in the AllenGleason Funeral Home, Rialto.
