Graveside services for Marvin E. Fowler, 86, of Portales will be at 10:00 A.M., Wed., Sept. 25, 2013, in the Floyd Cemetery with Scott P. Reeves officiating. All of his many friends, along with the staff of St. Anthony's Healthcare Center and the staff of Hospice of the Sandias will be honorary pallbearers.
Marvin Elgin Fowler was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Crosbyton, TX to the home of Aileen (Parker) and Elgin E. Fowler and died Sept. 20, 2013, in Clovis, NM. Mr. Fowler served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. On June 10, 1947, in Lordsburg, NM he was married to Betty Glover. They made their home in Tucson, AZ, before moving to Taft, CA where they lived for a short time. They came to Portales in the early 1950's, and Mr. Fowler was employed at Prince Welding. In 1956 they bought a farm in the Floyd community, where he farmed and ranched and ran a small dairy. In 1975, they moved into Portales to make their home, but continued to ranch and farm.
He always enjoyed welding, and making things for his family and friends. Mr. Fowler enjoyed a challenge, so the harder the project the better. While living in Floyd he was a member of the Floyd Baptist Church. Mr. Fowler was a member of the VFW and for several years enjoyed being a part of the CB club in Portales.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kay Sullins and Sherry and David Moon all of Portales; three grandchildren, Ronnie Cain, Shawn Gore and Kristy Holden; five great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Bryan and Gavin Gore and Bailey and Ricky Holden; a sister, Fayrene Peipelman of Pearl City, TX; and six nieces and a nephew, Mary Hill, Pearlia Tivis, Goldie Wall, Janice Lee, Barbara Miller-Hooten, Caye Jean Trahon and Kyle Peipelman. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clayton Fowler, two sisters, Goldie Carlisle and Bertha Gregory and by his wife, Betty who died Aug. 30, 1999.
