Age 89, son of William and Gertrude Werner Starner.

He was a farm boy raised in a family with twelve brothers and sisters. At the close of his high school years, he was drafted into the Army to fight in World War II. His service focused on the South Pacific where he endured face-to-face combat in the Philippines. Wounded on May 17, 1945, he returned to the United States to recover from his injury. He married Gloria Faye Ross on December 27, 1951 in Yuma, Arizona, and they settled in Southern California to raise their family. Having received his bachelor's degree from Northrop Institute, he worked as a hydraulics engineer for Northrop for some 30+ years. He and his wife retired to their dream retirement house in California, where he stayed until he went to live with his daughter.

He was preceded in death by Gloria on February 22, 2003. Also preceded in death by parents and numerous brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Constance Starner (husband Essa Allred), Karen (husband Albert) Ramos, Colleen (husband Sam) Allen, Curtis (wife Terry) Starner; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen and Grace; and brother Ralph.
