John Isaac Mumford was born in Pike township, Clark county Feb. 28, 1846. His father, George Mumford was prominently identified with the interests of Miami county and was a representative of one of the pioneer families of this part of the state. The old families have all passed away. "Old Aunt Hannah" Mumford, as she was familiarly called, lived to the advanced age of one hundred and five years and four months. She is buried at McKendree chapel.
John Isaac was united in marriage to Miss Elmira Lower, September 4, 1873. This union was blessed with three children, Walter I., merchant of Fletcher, Mrs. Hershel Shroyer of near Tippecanoe City, Mrs. Mack Snyder of near Alcony. He has two brothers, George and Harrison Mumford of near Miami City and three sisters, Mrs. George Jackson of Tippecanoe City, Mrs. John Rockey of near Addison, Mrs. James Harmon of near Alcony, Mrs. Elizabeth Harrod of Troy.
He was distinguished through life by a genial and happy disposition being a great lover of home and friends. He united with the Universalist church at Miami City, Feb. 25, 1882.
He was afflicted with a complication of heart trouble. He retained consciousness to the last moments and made all the arrangements for his funeral and talked freely. His mind was not clouded with the fear of endless torments. He never doubted for a moment the great truths of God's unchanging love. He passed quietly to his final rest Wednesday morning Mar. 15, at the age of 59y ears and 15 days. Besides his companion, he leaves his children, brothers, sisters and eight grandchildren to mourn his departure. May God comfort and sustain his sorely bereft family and relatives.
Funeral services were held at his residence in Addison, Friday, March 17. Services were conducted by Rev. E. Mumford. A very large circle of friends and relatives were present. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Casstown.

John Isaac was united in marriage to Miss Elmira TOWER, September 4, 1873.
