Watergate figure, Advisor to President Nixon. He was imprisoned for his involvement in the Watergate cover-up. He and Haldeman were Nixon's top two advisors during the Watergate scandal. He resigned that post in April of 1973 and was convicted two years later (obstruction of justice, conspiracy and perjury). He spent 18 months in a minimum security federal prison. Upon his release, he moved to New Mexico and became an artist, author, and political commentator. During World War II, he was in the 8th Air Force where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
