COURIER JOURNAL AUGUST 4, 1904
SUITED EACH OTHER AND THEY KNEW IT
ANTONIO MONTEDONICO’S EXPLANATION OF HIS MARRIAGE TO MISS ATRICIA CHIAPPA Antonio Montedonico arrived last night from this fatherland, sunny Italy, with his youthful bride, who was Miss Atricia Chiappa, and whom he met because she is the sister of his brother’s wife. He had known her just 27 days before the marriage He went to Italy with no other purpose than visiting his brother, and with not the slightest intention of again entering matrimony.
The first meeting took place St. John’s Day, June 24, when she went to the residence of “Nick” Montedonico. It was a case of love at first sight, and the courtship, a thing that is easy under the summer skies of Italy, was by no means long drawn out.
Miss Chiappa is the daughter of Stefano Chiappa, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of Lavania. She had, it is said, many suitors from her own town, but none of them found favor in her eyes and she was proof against Cupid’s darts until she met Mr. Montedonico at her sister’s house.
“I had no idea of getting married when I left here June 7,” said Mr. Montedonico last night, “and the whole thing is like a happy dream. I met her and I fell in love with her. We suited each other and we knew it. That is how it happened. It is like a romance you read about.”
The couple sailed for America on the day of the marriage and enjoyed an extremely pleasant trip, arriving in Louisville at 9:30 o’clock last night. They are at Mr. Montedonico’s apartments, 430 West Jefferson Street.
