SPARA, Wis. - (Special) - Ira Vian, 46, Onalaska, injured in the first hunting accident reported in the district, died this Saturday at 11 a. m. at the Sparta hospital, where he had been fighting for his life since Saturday.
Vian was struck by a stray bullet while hunting near Mosley's camp near U. S. highway 16 between Sparta and Tomah. The accident occurred Saturday at 8:30 a. m. Nov. 22.
The bullet had entered his left side near the lower end of the ribs and emerged just right of the spine. The bullet did not lodge in his body and did not penetrate any vital points, resulting in deep tissue wounds. Later complications developed and Vian's condition became critical.
Vian was born May 9, 1901, in the town of Burns, La Crosse county. He spent his early life near Sparta, but recently had lived with his sister, Mrs. Joseph Geisler, Onalaska. He was employed by the Northern Engraving company in La Crosse.
Survivors include three brothers, Lewis, Charles and Benjamin Franklin Vian, all of Sparta, two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Manfort, Sparta, and Mrs. Joseph Geisler, Onalaska.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

SPARTA, Wis. - (Special) - Funeral services for Ira Vian, 46, who died as the result of a gunshot wound received Saturday, Nov. 22, while hunting near Sparta, will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Lanham's mortuary in Sparta at 2 p. m. Burial is to be in the Farmers Valley cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary Monday afternoon and evening.
Coroner M. J. Lanham said there would be no inquest.
Vian was born May 9, 1901, in the town of Burns, La Crosse county. He spent his early life near Sparta, but recently had lived with his sister, Mrs. Joseph Geisler, Onalaska. He was employed by the Northern Engraving company in La Crosse.
Survivors include three brothers, Lewis, Charles and Benjamin Franklin Vian, all of Sparta; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Manfort, Sparta, and Mrs. Joseph Geisler, Onalaska.
