"Mrs. Hannah L. Herrington

"Mrs. Hannah Louise Hull Herrington, daughter of Thos. J. and Catherine Grinnell Hull was born in Rensselaer Co., N. Y., August 5, 1834, and died at her late residence in Alfred, August 3, 1910.

"She was married in Troy, N. Y., Jan. 27, 1854, to Mr. Heman Herrington, and soon after went to establish a new home near Peoria, Ill. In 1860, she was left a widow with two small children, Three months after the death of her husband one of these, a son, passed to the life beyond. The same year, she came to Alfred to support herself and daughter and build a home. The hard struggle for existence was, no doubt, a predisposing cause for the painful disease of rheumatic gout from which she has been a patient sufferer for more than thirty years.

"Though confined to her bed, she industriously used her hands in making lace and other articles of fancy work, until the hands became too weary and drawn to execute the will of the sufferer. She was interested in the work of the church and loyal to its teachings, and the cause of Christ found in her an earnest and loyal supporter.

"Her life of patience and cheerfulness in affliction, of industry, faith and courage has been an inspiration to many who have known her. Many an old student of Alfred who has had the privilege of living in her home holds her in loving memory; a wide circle of friends feel that they are the better because she has lived.

"Her years of suffering have been softened by the loving and self-sacrificing devotion and ministrations of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Green. These with many relatives, friends and neighbors cherish the memory of her helpful life.

"Funeral services were held at her late residence, Sabath afternoon, Aug 6, conducted by Rev. O. D. Sherman, assisted by Rev. B. F. Rogers. Interment in Alfred Rural Cemetery."
